In these strange days of terrorist assaults, pandemic disease, toilet paper hoarding and reality TV, let's reflect on strange days past. Seventy-five years ago African-Americans were not allowed to play Major League Baseball and segregation pervaded many walks of life here in America. Determined baseball executive Branch Rickey searched long and hard for the right man to break baseball's color barrier and history has proven he found the right one in Jackie Robinson. The Brooklyn Dodgers HOF second baseman withstood a barrage of insults and threats, while turning in a consistent all-star level of play that peaked in 1949 with an MVP season. Robinson's steadfast character and triumphant career set the table for widespread integration that transcended baseball and his autograph is a must for any serious collection. Here we have a prime example, with this Jackie Robinson signed GPC. Postmarked "Brooklyn, 8/6/52," this vintage relic from Robinson's active playing period is encapsulated by PSA with a favorable autograph grade of (MINT 9). Judging by the local Brooklyn address and lack of other details, this prized signature was obviously granted to satisfy an autograph request from a hometown fan.
