One of the finest hitters of all-time, Rod Carew sprayed the ball around AL parks with machine-like efficiency from 1967-1995. The "Zonian" ballplayer topped the .300 mark in 15 of his 19 MLB seasons with the Twins and Angels, winning 7 batting titles in the process. His top batting mark of .388 came in 1977, earning him the AL MVP award. The brilliant minds at Sports Illustrated turned to the great Ted Williams for his take on Carew's batting prowess, with this Vol. 47, #3 issue. Blessed with an outstanding grade of (9.6) by CGC, this issue sees the pair of remarkable batsmen posed beneath the caption "Ted Williams Analyzes Rod Carew", with the sub-title reading "The last .400 hitter and maybe the next". While Carew fell a little short of the mark, his 1977 average was the highest in MLB play since Williams recorded the same number of .388 in 1957. The lofty grade bestowed upon this prime publication is good for a CGC Census rank of "1/1", none higher.
