Pin your bids to this fascinating selection of (12) baseball pins. Dating from 1939-1993, this interesting mix boasts press pin examples from the World Series, All-Star Game and Winter Meetings, along with a badge from the 1939 Winter Meetings and an odd pinback button related to an All-Star Game held in Philadelphia. All of these 20th Century gems report in better to like-new condition, with:
1950 Phillies World Series press pin marked "Martin Sterling" on the back, (EX) with deference to the pin clasp being absent
1980 Phillies World Series press pin with Phanatic mascot charm marked "Harrison Erickson" (NM)
1976 Phillies All-Star Game press pin (NM)
1939 Winter meetings identification badge made to "John Quinn" on the name plate at top. A 1939 "Baseball Centennial" enamel medal marked "Bastian Bros." on the back is attached by a silk ribbon that reads "38th Annual Convention National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues Cincinnati Dec. 4-6, 1939" (EX-MT). John Quinn was a baseball lifer who served as general manager for the Red Sox and Phillies. A special election was held at these meetings to elect recently retired Lou Gehrig to the Hall of Fame.
Undated "Phila. Pa. All Star Game" pinback button with red, white and blue ribbons and a celluloid batter charm marked "Japan" on the back of the right leg. The button presents as (EX-MT+), the ribbons are in sturdy condition and the charm shows moderate wear and looks like it is attached by a latter date string. To date four All-Star Games have been held at Philadelphia, in 1943, 1952, 1976 and 1996, with 1952 being the most likely date of origin for this local souvenir issue.
