1939 was a banner year for the New York Yankees. Though Lou Gehrig's retirement in June was a sore blow to the team and all of baseball, the Yankees set a record in '39 with their fourth consecutive World Series championship. The Yankees quite literally made quick work of the up and coming Cincinnati Reds, with a four-game series sweep that required a tidy seven hours and five minutes of playing time to complete altogether. Celebrate New York's historic triumph with this 1939 World Series program and ticket stub combination. Issued at Yankees Stadium, these big game relics report in pleasing condition in light of their considerable age, with the program rating as (VG) and the Game 1 ticket stub reporting as a (VG+) example, from a tight 2-1 game that saw both winning pitcher Ruffing and losing pitcher Derrigner turn in complete game performances. Photos of the Yankees formidable squad are seen in the program, with position players DiMaggio, Dickey, Gordon, Keller, Crosetti, Selkirk, Dahlgren, Rolfe and Henrich joined by manager McCarthy and pitchers Gomez, Ruffing, Hadley, Donald, Pearson, Chandler, Murphy and Hildebrand. Gehrig is also pictured and the scorecard section is unused.
