Description



Scenes from baseball's antiquity are spotlighted with this 1880s-1910s real photo postcard and cabinet card lot of (8). Team photos, on field game action and packed grandstands make this significant selection a well-rounded grouping, with all but (1) piece reporting as above average. Given their regional or local origins, all of these antique cards position as scarce. Featured are:


(2) c.1880s-1890s Cabinet Cards:


"Fitchville" team photo 7-3/4 x 5-3/4" cabinet photo with players wearing "pillbox" style caps, (VG) solid and fairly clean, no identifiers or credits noted


"BPA" team photo 6-1/2 x 4-1/4" cabinet photo (PR) with considerable wear, however it retains nice gloss and distinct player images; printed on the reverse is "A.B. Buell, Photographer" and "E.L. Smith;" also bears written notations on the reverse;

"Athletic Field - Hershey, PA." game action postcard of unusual 5-1/2 x 2-3/4" size, title caption includes the legend "Home of the Hershey Chocolate Co.;" this unused card rates as (VG+) with distinct images and clean surfaces;


"Illinois 11, Chicago 4, Mar. 19, 1911" crowd scene standard size postcard; obverse presents EX detail, reverse bears considerable album paper/adhesive residue; printed at left on the reverse is "Strauch's Student Life series University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana;"


Untitled standard size postcard with obverse photo of a ladies only seating section, with a couple of players in the foreground, (VG-EX) unused with nice gloss;


"Wausau Red Sox, Champions 1914" standard size team photo postcard (VG+) unused with nice gloss;


Untitled game action standard size postcard with white border (EX) unused with nice gloss;


"Fowler's Field Berwick Base Ball Grounds, Berwick, Pa." standard size game action postcard with U.S. Flag in lower right corner (VG) unused, printed on the reverse with "Newvochrome ANC N.Y.
