There's more to baseball than the thrilling game action we all know and love. There's the daily grind of travel, workouts, planes, buses, hotels and restaurants. Of course teams have to keep track of expenses incurred while on the road and here we have (4) expense sheets team-signed by members of the 1978 San Diego Padres. Titled at top as "Room Allowance", "Meal Money" or "Murphy Money", these sheets all have the same dimensions of 8-1/2 x 14" and all have three horizontal compacting folds. More importantly all (4) sheets are signed with average ("8-9") potency by (25) or more team members. Chief among the signers are Hall of Famers Rollie Fingers, Gaylord Perry, Ozzie Smith and Dave Winfield, who have signed all (4) sheets; and coach Billy Herman who has signed (3) sheets. Other notables are manager Roger Craig (3) sheets, Mickey Lolich (3), Randy Jones (4), Gene Tenace (4), George Hendrick (4), Oscar Gamble (4) and Bill Almon (4). One sheet has a tear that passes through Winfield's signature and that of (3) others, otherwise these vintage documents remain crisp and fairly clean. Auction LOA from JSA.
We don't know what "Murphy Money" is and no, we won't accept it for payment of your auction winnings.
