Carl Erskine wore number 17 with distinction from 1948 through 1959, then ceded the number to a series of Dodger players who may have donned this cap (marked "17" on the bill's underside) between 1960 and 1969: Phil Ortega, Hector Valle, Jim Barbieri, Nate Oliver, Hank Aguirre and Jim Bunning. A McAuliffe manufacturer's label appears on the center rear of the leather sweatband. The size 7-1/4 cap displays extremely well with light overall wear and minimal, if any, fading. There is a slight crack just left of center on the dried-out bill—not unexpected after more than 50 years especially since McAuliffe caps are susceptible to dried-out bills. LOA from Phil Wood.
