A companion piece to the Lou Groza rookie card photo also offered in our auction, Mac Speedie's shot is likewise a crystal-clear beauty with exceptional artistic composition. The unidentified photographer captured a perfect moment of the future Hall of Famer frozen in mid-air, torso stretched, eyes focused, ball in hand. A multi-sport athlete and track star who excelled in hurdles, Speedie was initially drafted by the Lions in 1942, before enlisting in the U.S. Army, where he was ultimately recruited by Paul Brown. Interestingly, Speedie holds the distinction of scoring the first points in Browns franchise history with a 19-yard touchdown reception on September 6, 1946. A couple years later, he scampered for a 99-yard TD off an Otto Graham screen pass, and he was arguably the most dominant of any AAFC receiver. A handwritten caption on the reverse reads, "Mac Speedie / End / Cleveland Browns." Condition-wise, there is some modest toning at upper left and typical peripheral usage/handling wear. Encapsulated as "Type I Authentic / 50 Bowman Image" by PSA.
