So many firsts! In London in 1948, the 17-year-old Mathias was the youngest ever Olympic gold medalist in a track-and-field event. In Helsinki in 1952, he broke ground by successfully winning his second consecutive Olympic decathlon. That same year, Mathias made history by participating in both the Olympic Games and the Rose Bowl. He later parlayed his global fame into a four-term career as a U.S. congressman from California. The legend's blue-ink "9-10" signatures appear on unlined 3x5 cards in NM condition. Mathias died of cancer in 2006 at age 75. Auction LOA from JSA.
