"Deadheads" steal away with a vintage prize, when you capture this Grateful Dead point of sale advertising sign. Measuring 16x16 at its widest points, this visual delight was intended to promote the Dead's 1976 double album "Steal Your Face" at record stores. This die cut promoter features the most recognizable logo associated with the Grateful Dead, the "Lightning Skull". Rivaling the Rolling Stones "Lips and Tongue" logo for familiarity in the world of Rock 'n Roll, this iconic image is formatted as a red, white and blue circle, with a smiling human skull, that has a thirteen-pointed lightning bolt on the forehead. A banner bar at top has a factory punched hanging hole and sports a classic rendering of the band's name; and another bar at bottom announces the album title and also includes a "United Artists Music and Records" credit. Considering the age of this forty-four year old sign, it stands out as an impressive example. The central skull circle reports as bright, glossy and fresh, however a couple of pinholes and some light soiling/staining on the white areas of the top and bottom bars limit this piece to an (EX) rating.
