An historic first is at hand, with this 8/16/54 inaugural issue of Sports Illustrated. This classic magazine is widely considered the leading sports publication of all-time, and this classic first issue is a must have cornerstone for any serious collection. A solid (EX-MT) example with a tight spine, the offered SI Vol. 1, #1 issue is also famous for a three-page foldout of Topps baseball cards. In this case the prized supplement is complete and intact with vibrant colors, pleasing gloss and just minor traces of wear. Among the featured period stars, are Hall of Famers Willie Mays, Eddie Mathews, Duke Snider, Richie Ashburn, Jackie Robinson, Larry Doby and Ted Williams. Setting this coveted first issue apart from others of its type, is an Eddie Mathews autograph on the front cover. Mathews has signed neatly in gold with ("8-9") potency, just above the photo of him batting in a night game at Milwaukee, and an accompanying memorabilia show ticket indicates this autograph was acquired in 1993. Auction LOA from JSA.
