Introduced in 1941, Aquaman is one of the few characters to remain active throughout the lull suffered by the super-hero genre in the 1950s. When the Silver Age came into being, the King of Atlantis was re-branded with new abilities and an expanded back story. Like many great DC super-heroes of the period, Aquaman was spotlighted in a four-issue run in the anthology series Showcase in 1961. His successful run in this famous proving ground series opened the door to Aquaman's first solo title in 1962. Seen lately in several big screen DC Universe blockbuster films, this charter member of the Justice League of America is riding a tidal wave of popularity.
