We're pleased to be handling an extensive collection of Cubs game jerseys that were sourced directly from the team and that mainly date to the significant years of 2015 (Ernie Banks' passing) and 2016 (108-year-old-curse-breaking championship!). The headliner is this 2017 Kris Bryant uniform ensemble (jersey/pants) from the then-reigning N.L. MVP and prior ROY, who led the Cubbies to their 3rd-straight NLCS.
Iron-clad provenance comes in the form of MLB hologram authentication pinpointing the Majestic blue road jersey to August 13, 2017, and the Majestic gray home pants to August 14th, 2017. Sports Investors Authentication, LLC, then provides the next level of impeccable analysis by photo matching the jersey to a total of 8 games in July and August. It was a prolific period in which Bryant batted .500 with 2 HRs, 7 runs, 3 RBIs and 2 walks. The first round-tripper came against the Brewers on July 30th (#20 of season, #85 of career), and the next was in a win over the Diamondbacks on August 13th.
"The jersey in review is properly tagged, lettered, and numbered," state the Sports Investors Authentication experts. "It is consistent with known exemplars. It exhibits game use and wash wear. Appears to have no other alterations of any kind, has been photo matched, and came directly from the Chicago Cubs. Therefore, it is the considered opinion of Sports Investors Authentication that this jersey is genuine and was worn by Kris Bryant in the 2017 season."
The pants show even heavier use, having been pulled from circulation the very day after a notable sliding play in which Bryant scored from 2nd base on a wild pitch. There's a discreet embroidered Cubs patch at the left upper thigh and extremely heavy soiling/wear throughout the right leg, capped off by a large 3-1/2" x 4-1/2" patch repair below the right back pocket. Even that spot nearly needed re-patching after another hard slide took off some of the stitched patch fabric! A waistband label provides Bryant's number and sizing: "#17 2017 / 35-46-37 OBC."
Based on our research, the record price for a 2017 Bryant jersey alone (without pants) is $9,500 paid for his Opening Day threads and $9,000 paid for a photo-matched, multi-month example similar to the one on offer here.
