Description

While nobody could have known at the time, the 1949 New York Yankees team laid the groundwork for the greatest run in the history of Major League Baseball. This well-rounded squad racked up 97 wins during the regular season, then beat their crosstown rivals the Brooklyn Dodgers in the World Series, starting a five-year run of consecutive championships that may never be equaled. Score a fairly tough souvenir from this historic campaign, with this full-size 1949 Yankees team scroll pennant. Listing wizened manager Casey Stengel and his crack troops Joe DiMaggio, Yogi Berra, Phil Rizzuto, Tommy Henrich, Hank Bauer, Allie Reynolds, Ed Lopat and the rest of the gang, this seldom seen pennant is an exciting find. While the accent strip at the wide end is almost completely worn away, the all important scroll and the team name lettering remain clean and bold. Though technically a (FR-GD) example due to the accent strip erosion, this vintage herald otherwise retains abundant display appeal.
