The advent of wire-service distribution in the 1930s spawned a massive influx of Type III wire photos in the decades to follow. As a result, this is an opportunity to acquire many of the same images that are available as Type I's—but at a fraction of the cost. Nearly all have image-embedded front captions, along with the usual assortment of copyright stampings, date stampings and editorial notations on the reverse. Local sources like the Philadelphia Inquirer are joined by national distribution services like the Associated Press and United Press. Typical newsroom handling wear throughout. The decades break down like this:

1950s (108)
1960s (81)
1970s (31)
