They sure don't make All-Star Games like they used to. A truly star-studded affair comes to mind with the presentation of this 1937 MLB All-Star Game ticket stub. In an 8-3 AL triumph, "Lefty" Gomez earned the win, and "Dizzy" Dean was tagged with the loss. Adding injury to insult, the Cardinals ace suffered a broken toe from a ball batted by Earl Averill, that shortened his career. Lou Gehrig went "2/4" with the game's only home run, the last ASG dinger of his legendary career. It's easy to see why the AL came out on top. Joining Gehrig on the "Junior Circuit" side were Jimmie Foxx, Joe DiMaggio, Bill Dickey, Charlie Gehringer, Hank Greenberg, and Joe Cronin. The NL countered with Mel Ott, Johnny Mize, "Ducky" Medwick, "Gabby" Hartnett, Paul Waner, Billy Herman, and "Arky" Vaughn, but even that group of Hall of Famers couldn't muster enough firepower to overcome the talent-rich AL squad. Dated 7/7/37, a lucky number if we ever saw one, this vintage Griffith Stadium stub retains plenty of period authentic appeal, despite rating as (PR).
