Prior to renegade and eccentric owners such as Finley and Veeck, Christian Von Der Ahe was among the first front office chiefs to have such a larger-than-life public persona. The St. Louis Browns architect is pictured for the only time on the offered 1887 N172 Old Judge Brown's Champions subset. The wealthy owner who quicky fell from grace is crease-free with only mild perimeter wear and a lightly soiled blank reverse.
