NYC-based artist Steve Sax has been mastering his unique brand of Pop Art-meets-Folk Art for the past 30 years. Sax (no relation to the former Dodgers ballplayer) received his artistic training at the Art Students League under legendary realist painter Harvey Dinnerstein, who coincidentally died several weeks ago at age 94. He also studied at the School of Visual Arts and was influenced by such diverse sources as MAD magazine's illustrations. Sax's original artwork has been prominently featured at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, the Fleet Center in Boston, the Butler Museum in Salem, and Mickey Mantle's Restaurant in Manhattan. Sax's drawings and cartoons have appeared in the New York Times and Forbes, while his murals have been commissioned by Estee Lauder, AT&T and IBM. Huggins & Scott is pleased to present 10 of Steve Sax's distinctive, 3-D sports tributes in our current auction. Each mixed-media, acrylic-on-wood creation is titled, dated and signed by the artist. More than half are also signed by the subject athlete, as well as accompanied by pictures from the respective signing session.
