Description

Watch Williams excitedly round the bases and get greeted at home plate for his ASG walk-off and it's clear why he's smiling from ear to ear in the locker room and feeling on top of the world. DiMaggio's got his arm around him as they reminisce. Among the many phenomenal details of this Type II example (made from the 1941 original negative around the time of Williams' retirement) are Teddy Ballgame's dirt-stained pants and the fact that Joltin' Joe already has his socks, shoes and jersey off. A partial paper caption on the reverse reads, "HEAVY ARTILLERY / Detroit -- Ted Williams of the Boston Red Sox (left) and Joe DiMaggio, Yankee stalwart, rest their feet after yesterday's hair-raising All-Star Game in Briggs Stadium. Williams gave the game a De Mille finish by blasting out a homer in the last inning with two on and two out." The 7x9 shot features red crop marks on front, with a reverse UPI stamp and editorial notations referencing the publication and subsequent filing, "P. 25 / F. 85 / crop as shown / Baseball Historic." EX-MT condition. The full LOA from PSA reads, "Photo is a 1958-62 restrike that was made off the original negative by UPI featuring an image originally taken in 1941." Encapsulated as Type II by PSA.
