Description

A regal presentation is had, with this Franklin D. Roosevelt signed 1919 Navy Commission Certificate. A life-long politician, FDR held several offices prior to his four terms as President. While serving as Assistant Secretary of the Navy, he signed off on this impressive document, which appointed Joseph P. Copp as "Assistant Dental Surgeon in the Navy, with the rank of Lieutenant, junior grade". Adorned with fantastic illustrations and a blue seal, this 16x19 appointment is majestically framed and matted to overall dimensions of 29x26. Included in the presentation, are a 4x6 portrait photo of Roosevelt during his presidential administration, and an engraved title plate. While the certificate shows moderate wear, this condition supports the authentic antique appeal of this piece. The other elements present handsomely, in a lustrous gilt frame, ready for display. The accompanying LOA from PSA/DNA cites Roosevelt's fountain pen signature as an ("8") strength example, that appears as "Franklin D. Roosevelt", with the title "Acting Secretary of the Navy".
