This poor man's Ruth offers the prestige without the price tag. According to the Full LOA from JSA, "The original black signature was heavily traced over by a blue ink years later in an unknown hand." It's not an immediately noticeable detail, and the autograph could easily pass for being completely original. Provenance-wise, the story is that Red Sox secretary James Rigby Price was the original recipient. Scuffed, medium-toned and red-and-blue-seamed, the ball is an Official American League example and dates to that most desirable and iconic of all seasons—1927.
