Seventy-two years ago, a high-spirited youth movement captured the hearts of Philadelphians, and the attention of baseball fans far and wide. Famously known as the "Whiz Kids", this talented team stands as one of the best in the long history of the Phillies franchise. As the Phillies were headed for a meeting with the New York Yankees in the 1950s World Series, the Philadelphia Inquirer sold some extra newspapers by publishing a set of (24) player photos, under the title "Inquirer Fightin' Phillies Album".

Here's your chance to score a complete set of this scarce regional issue. Sized at 5x7, these newspaper premiums are formatted with color photos and brief biographies. All (24) are neatly cut along the dashed perimeter lines, and all present handsomely, ranging (VG to EX+). The surfaces are generally bright and clean, and the paper remains crisp throughout. Given they were printed on newspaper stock, this set reports in surprisingly attractive condition.

Featured players are: Richie Ashburn, Jimmy Bloodworth, Ralph Caballero, Milo Candini, Bubba Church, Sylvester Donnelly, Del Ellis, Mike Goliat, Granny Hamner, Ken Heintzelman, Stan Hollmig, Ken Johnson, Willie Jones, Stan Lopata, Russ Meyer, Bob Miller, Bill Nicholson, Robin Roberts, Andy Seminick, Ken Silvestri, Dick Sisler, Curt Simmons, Eddie Waitkus, and Dick Whitman.
