Baseball historians get an eyeful with this 1906 W601 Sporting Life folio. Taken from the annual Sporting Life Portfolio series, this 13x14 team composite features player-manager Jack Dunn and his Eastern League champions, the Providence Grays. Though he was an average Major Leaguer from 1897-1904, Dunn was a serious student of the game. There's no denying his eye for talent, as he put together some formidable teams, that in turn supplied the Majors with many great talents, including Babe Ruth and Lefty Grove. The Eastern League was a high level minor league affiliation, that became the AAA International League in 1912. Dunn is pictured at center of the offered folio, inset in a baseball with the legend "Providence Base Ball Club of 1905 Eastern League John Dunn Mgr & 2nd B. Champions for 1906". A small strip of adhered paper and partial surface paper loss is noted on the reverse at top, without affecting the front, which presents handsomely with EX details.
