Autograph hounds take up the chase for an extremely rare prize, with this "Chief" Meyers single-signed baseball. A Native American of the Cahuilla Nation, Meyers' main claim to fame was serving as Christy Mathewson's catcher from 1909-1915. During this time he batted .300+ for three consecutive seasons, as a key member of New York Giants pennant winning teams in 1911, 1912 and 1913. Having passed away in 1971, it is now fifty years since anyone could ask him for an autograph.

Finding currently available signature examples of this "Deadball Era" standout in any form presents a considerable challenge, and single-signed baseballs border on "Never Never Land". The offered Meyers single-signed ball goes the extra mile, with the inclusion of the inscription "Giants", below the "Chief's" ("6-7") strength signature. This green ink autograph is properly located on the sweet spot of a well preserved Spalding Official Little League ball that presents solid (NM+) quality with bold factory labeling stamps on a clean, off-white surface.
