Overshadowed by modern era third basemen with escalating power numbers and widespread television coverage, Hall of Fame Pie Traynor was perhaps the best all-around player to man the hot corner. In his 17-year career with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Traynor authored a career .320 batting average while warranting top-10 MVP consideration six times. The leader on two National League pennant winners and the 1925 World Series champion squad, Traynor is the handsome subject and endorser of this 8x10” black-and-white photograph. Pictured in the latter portion (1933-1939) of his playing/managerial tenure in the Steel City, Traynor (d.1972) has signed “Harold “Pie” Traynor” in black fiber tip marker (“9-10” strength). Accompanying is a full photo LOA from JSA.
