1887 N28 Allen and Ginter Mike Kelly SGC 10

  • Sold For: $345
  • Year: 1887
  • Auction: 2008 April
  • Lot #: 4
  • Auction Category: Pre-1900 Baseball Cards (1830-1899)

Offered is an 1887 N28 Allen and Ginter Mike “King” Kelly that has been graded “10” by SGC. An overzealous child with a purple crayon made “10,000 Dollar Kelly” look like a million bucks on this card that has been degraded with coloring around Kelly’s portrait. This card was part of a nineteenth-century set that included a variety of athlete portraits packed into boxes of cigarettes. The reverse is clean, and the edges and corners show slight to moderate wear that is typical of cards from this era. This chance to own a piece of “The King” should not be passed up by any vintage collector.
