While uncertainties, apocryphal accounts and resultant arguments will forever loom regarding "Shoeless" Joe Jackson's role in the 1919 Black Sox disgrace, the fallen hero's astonishing numbers and the offered 1916 Collins-McCarthy #82 card are not subject to debate. Encapsulated and graded 50 VG-EX 4 by SGC, this Candy Co. specimen is one of two at its plateau with none graded higher by the esteemed service. Crisp imagery and a clean reverse are alluring attributes of this Deadball Era treasure, while a tiny crease in the lower right corner and very minor flaking along the top border account for the technical assessment.
