Situated in rural Keystone, South Dakota, the Mount Rushmore National Memorial was sculpted by the father and son duo of Gutzon and Lincoln Borglum under the direction of multiple federal agencies. The premise of this ambitious undertaking was to boost tourism in the Black Hills region while paying permanent homage to those presidents who permanently shaped American society. Although the fourteen-year project was a costly endeavor, the granite landmark is an enduring testament to our nation’s regard for its highest elected office. Produced in 2008 by Upper Deck, the “Signs of History” series featured multiple cut autographs of Oval Office occupants seeded throughout various baseball products. While the single and dual cuts are already among the more coveted “pulls,” the offered George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson and Theodore Roosevelt “Mount Rushmore” themed quad cut signature card can be rightly considered the “holy grail” of the modern insert hobby. Serially numbered 1/1, these esteemed etchings were neatly pared from a variety of documents. The obverse featuring Washington (d.1799) and Lincoln (d.1865) presents (“6-7”) and (“9”) respectively, while the reverse featuring Jefferson (d.1826) and T. Roosevelt (d.1919) exhibits (“6-7”) and (“8-9”) penmanship. A notation mentioning “five shillings for” is noticeable beneath Washington’s endorsement. This once-in-a-lifetime relic is securely encapsulated by PSA/DNA and is further authenticated with a UDA hologram sticker on the reverse (UDC #11226). When the highest bid is registered, the purchaser can be well assured that this "Mount Rushmore" signed relic is the permanent foundation of their autograph collection.
