Felled to the canvas for the first time in his unblemished career, Heavyweight contender Rocky Marciano battled undaunted on September 23, 1952 at Philadelphia’s Municipal Stadium. At 43 seconds of the 13th round, Marciano improved his record to 43-0, landing his patented right-hand “Suzie Q” to the head of Joe Walcott to lay claim to the heavyweight title. Encapsulated and assessed “Authentic” by PSA, this full ticket was issued for that historic bout in Philly. The gorgeous voucher reads like a gymnasium broadside, with printed seating/event details, a (then) hefty “$25” price, and headshots of the hard-hitting combatants. Ten years Walcott’s junior, Marciano prevailed that night despite being down on all three scorecards (8-4, 7-5, 7-4) at the time of his knockout blow. The lone Heavyweight champ to go undefeated throughout his career, Marciano would go on to successfully defend his title six times. Mirroring the rarity of Marciano’s pedigree, this ticket is the lone specimen graded by the esteemed third-party service (there are 16 graded examples from the 1953 re-match). Sharp edges and strong perforations are prominent features on this ring relic.
