Graded 84 NM 7 by SGC. Breathtaking 1909-11 T206 White Borders Christy Mathewson portrait in a remarkable state of preservation. Recently unearthed in an antique toy box by our consignor, the canvas of the “Christian Gentleman” appears to have been virtually untouched for decades. The dapper Class of 1936 Hall of Famer emerges from an amber backdrop with razor-sharp corners, creamy edges and an unblemished surface registration. Despite slightly askew top-to-bottom centering along with a factory printing imperfection along the upper edge, any detractors are superficial when compared to the overwhelming attributes of the subject’s majestic presentation. The Piedmont 150 Subjects advertising back is clean with bright typeface. The sole Christy Mathewson pose/brand combination at this grading level with none equal or better.
