As was the thread with many Boston Red Sox campaigns during their self-inflicted “Curse of The Bambino,” the 1978 edition was marked by thorough dominance through most of the season and an unthinkable collapse in the final chapter. This 1978 one-game, winner-take-all playoff ticket was issued on October 2 at Fenway Park for yet another installment of Beantown heartbreak. Encapsulated and assessed “Authentic” by PSA, this postseason keepsake has done something the BoSox couldn’t do that fall: survive. Up by 7 full games entering September, Boston could not hold off the charging Bronx Bombers. The offered “RESERVED” stub has printed seating/event details, the facsimile signature of general manager Haywood Sullivan and an “E2” designation. Of note is a black-and-white photo of local hero Carl Yastrzemski, who popped out to third base with the tying run just 90 feet away to bring a bitter end to the game and Red Sox season (prompting skipper Don Zimmer to come up with his own version of Bucky Dent's middle name).
