No longer welcome at the Polo Grounds (the Giants’ brass didn’t take kindly to the fact that the Ruth-led Yanks significantly out-drew the incumbent team), the New York Yankees played their final games as tenants of the famed Harlem facility in the 1922 Fall Classic. Issued on October 4 for the opener of a series held entirely at one venue, this Polo Grounds ticket stub is one of few survivors. Encapsulated and assessed “Authentic” by PSA, this “Bleachers” voucher features printed seating/event details, ornate finery and the facsimile signature of Giants owner Charles Stoneham. A series of wrinkles is visible only upon close examination and minor reverse paper loss was likely incurred on the admission tear. Marking the first of three times that the Yankees squandered a lead in that series, the Giants tallied three times in the bottom of the eighth to register a 3-2 triumph. A coveted keepsake for an early Babe Ruth October appearance, this hails from a game in which he delivered his 8th of 33 career World Series RBI.Incidentally, though this was the second straight and final “all-Polo Grounds” World Series, it was the second-to-last Fall Classic held entirely at one stadium, as the St. Louis Cardinals and Browns (Sportsman’s Park) were the last to do so (1944).
