Out of professional boxing for two years, 36-year-old Joe Louis had no choice but to return to the “squared circle” in 1950, as an IRS investigation discovered that he owed $500,000 in taxes, interest and penalties. In an attempt to re-claim a Heavyweight title since awarded to Ezzard Charles, Louis was pummeled for 15 rounds by the new champion. Encapsulated and Graded EX 5 by PSA, this full ticket was issued at Yankee Stadium for that September 27, 1950 bout between the “Brown Bomber” and Ezzard Charles. With printed seating/event details on the obverse and printed legal disclaimers on the reverse, the bright-orange voucher presents even nicer than the technical grade suggests. This is one of three at its tier with none graded higher.
