While his dream of a World Series title had little chance of coming to fruition as the curtain came down on his remarkable career, 41-year-old Ted Williams was none the worse for a 22-year tenure interrupted by two lengthy stints in the U.S. military. En route to 29 circuit clouts and a robust .316 batting mark in his swan song, Williams became only the fourth player to eclipse the mythical 500 Home Run plateau, delivering the historic blow off Cleveland rookie Wynn Hawkins on June 17, 1960 before a scant crowd of 9,765 at Cleveland’s cavernous Municipal Stadium. Encapsulated and Graded Good 2 by PSA, this ticket stub was issued for that landmark event. The lone specimen at its tier with only two graded higher, this “General Admission” voucher features printed seating/event details, as well as a stamped date on the obverse. While sections of reverse paper loss account for the technical assessment, this scarce survivor showcases razor-sharp edges and corners.
