The offered 1933 R300 George C. Miller near set of (30/32) cards is a depression era treasure that is almost impossible to locate in any condition. Adding to the luster of this Boston area set is that while most cards were submitted and cancelled (either through hole punches or being sliced in half) as part of a promotional campaign, these candy card relics have entirely escaped that fate. The dazzling multi-colored backgrounds are fashioned after the popular art deco design sequences of the age. Of the 32 cards in the series, an even split of 16 American and National Leaguers are checklisted. Exactly 60% of the offered assembly captures members of the Baseball Hall of Fame. The overall condition breakdown is as follows: 7% (VG), 20% (GD), 17% (FR) and 56% (PR) with 15% displaying reverse paper loss or writing. Highlights include: Averill (PR), Bottomley (PR, reverse paper loss), Cronin (PR, reverse paper loss), Dickey (PR), Foxx (PR), Frisch (PR, reverse paper loss), Gehringer (FR), Goslin (GD), Grove (FR), Hafey (PR), Klein (PR), Maranville (PR), O’Doul (GD), Ott (GD), Ruffing (PR), Simmons (FR), Terry (PR), L. Waner (PR) and P. Waner (PR). Each portrait displays a Type 1 (Fox/Klien) checklist back. Missing only the Andrews shortprint and Dean for completion. The Ivy Andrews card was a redemption that was shortprinted so that fewer prizes would be distributed.
