Build your collection of U.S. President’s autographs on this cornerstone document. Founding father and first POTUS George Washington is the author of this very desirable signed free frank. Though more than two centuries have passed since the original Commander-In-Chief put pen to paper, this remarkable signature has withstood the test of time to register solid (“7”) potency. Encapsulated and certified Authentic by PSA/DNA, Washington’s stately signature appears at lower left as “G° Washington” below the word “Free” also penned in his hand. Belying its considerable age this well-preserved correspondence shows only light soiling and modest wear. Addressed in unknown hand as “Col° Clement Biddle, Philadelphia” this important relic from America’s youth remains highly appealing with bold and handsome lettering. A member of the prominent Biddle family of Philadelphia, Clement Biddle held the position of Commissary General under Washington at Valley Forge and fought in several major battles during the Revolutionary War. Having formed a close and lasting friendship, Biddle went on to handle Washington’s business affairs in the “City of the Brotherly Love”. More on our website. In 1789 Washington appointed Biddle the first U.S. Marshall of Pennsylvania. When held up to light an unknown design similar to a watermark is visible from the reverse side of this document. Due to encapsulation further research into the meaning of the potentially symbolic design is not possible without removal from the sealed plastic enclosure.
