Before the New York Yankees had even so much as appeared in a World Series, the Boston Red Sox had won five separate Fall Classic titles, pre-dating their lengthy and infamous “curse” brought on by the ill-advised sale of Babe Ruth. Paying homage to the BoSox after their 1915 conquest (the third of those five championships), this team vintage photo was printed on a sheet of white leather. A popular (and expensive) tribute, this means of photo display was short-lived and as a result, surviving examples are decidedly scarce. To add additional appeal, this is among the most well-preserved specimens we’ve encountered. Measuring approximately 23-1/2” (at its widest width) by 27-1/2” in height, the relic showcases a sepia-toned team photograph. The oval-shaped depiction is accented by symmetrically arranged individual portraits of Harry Hooper, Tris Speaker, Dutch Leonard, Bill Carrigan and Duffy Lewis. The latter two images flank a printed proclamation reading: “Red Sox World Champions 1915.” The item remains supple with very minimal cracking and pinholes to facilitate previous display. An absolutely breathtaking survivor from a glorious era in Carmines baseball!
