Graded Authentic by PSA. Straight from the textile mills of Pickens County, South Carolina, (Shoeless) Joe Jackson struggled during his two-season stint with the Philadelphia Athletics by only collecting six total base hits. Despite his lack of batting prowess, the American Caramel Company of Jackson's baseball hometown saw fit to include him as one of their cardboard subjects for the Base Ball Caramels series. Following a trade to Chicago and honing his talents with “Black Betsy”, the ill-fated Jackson would later become in embroiled in the “Black Sox” scandal and leave an indelible mark on baseball history with his banishment. As such, period material of the controversial White Sox slugger is in perpetual demand. The offered 1909 E90-1 American Caramel Joe Jackson pre-dates his 1910 T210-8 Old Mill minor league card by a full season and is the earliest card of the outfielder. With deference to trimming along the upper and lower edges, this 106 year-old caramel card presents (VG) with moderately worn corners and a crease-free surface. The creamy reverse is absent of any paper loss, residue or other wear. This eye-catching cornerstone presents a fine opportunity to secure one of the hobby’s most celebrated cards at a fraction of the cost of a higher graded copy.
