One of the finest multi-sport athletes at the turn of the century, David Fultz (d.1959) was an All-American in football and baseball, and he went on to play both sports professionally while also getting his law degree at Columbia. In the early 1910s, at a time when flush team owners were building palace-like stadiums, Fultz founded the Baseball Players" Fraternity—the third players" union in major-league history. (A groundswell of support came immediately after Ty Cobb"s controversial May 1912 suspension.)
