Nineteenth Century Type Card! Produced by Green and Blackwell of New York City, the 1888 E223 G&B Chewing Gum designation holds the distinction of being the first true baseball gum issue in trading card history. The diminutive series is extremely scarce and features multiple sepia images that were also released with the 1887 Four Base Hits and 1888 N403 Yum Yum Tobacco issues. A total of 117 copies of all subjects have been judged by either PSA or SGC. Graded 10 Poor 1 by SGC, this Con Daily portrait was just uncovered by our Maryland-based consignor. The clear portrait of the dapper Chicago backstop presents remarkably well with only a dab of reverse residue and coloring along the bottom left edge accounting for the assessment. It should be noted that the reverse coloring does not protrude the surface. One of only three graded by SGC and none by PSA.
