After losing a heartbreaking Game 1 in extra innings, Walter Johnson pitched intrepidly in this Game 5 at the Polo Grounds, only to come undone in the 8th inning for his second Series defeat. The Big Train got the last laugh, though, as he came on to relieve in the 9th inning in the decisive seventh game. Johnson slammed the door on the Giants through the 12th inning of that extra-inning tilt to claim a victory for the Nationals in this, the Senators" only World Championship. The 4-1/4 x 2-1/4" ticket exhibits a VG-EX/EX frontal appearance with a light wrinkle at top left. Paper residue and evidence of one-time album mounting is evident on the back. Encapsulated as "Authentic" by PSA. A 2013 LOA from Henry W. Thomas reads, "This is to certify that the 1924 World Series ticket for game 5 at the Polo Grounds that you obtained from me originated from the estate of my grandfather, Walter Johnson, and came from his personal scrapbooks."
