If Ty Cobb was the brain of baseball and "Babe" Ruth the heart, certainly Lou Gehrig was the soul. On the short list of all-time greatest players, Gehrig (d.1941) was a shining example of what a hard working ball player should be. Presented is a Gehrig single-signed ball signed as "Lou Gehrig" on the sweet spot. Balls of this nature are tough, tough, tough, as Gehrig typically signed on a side panel, leaving the sweet spot place of honor for his teammate the "Babe". Team-signed balls and album pages bearing the signature of the "Iron Horse" are available, but this remarkable example ranks as a true baseball treasure worthy of the quest. Displaying distinct ("5-6") quality, Gehrig"s neatly applied autograph takes up a sizeable portion of the sweet spot area on a c.1930s Arrow Brand "Special League" baseball that presents (EX) with just a few scattered abrasions that do not affect the signature. This evenly toned light-tan sphere sports prominent factory stamps and tight red and black stitching and is generally solid and pleasing. Fill that special need in your collection with this magnificent and historic gem, signed by a great baseball run producer and role model. Full photo LOAs from JSA and PSA/DNA.
