The few Max Carey singles that have ever reached auction have consistently sold for between $3,000 and $5,000, with one particular 1930s example soaring over $7,000. We believe the beauty presented here to be the best of them all in terms of condition and visual splendor. It"s a clean, creamy OAL (Cronin) ball boasting Carey"s vivid blue-ink "9" signature that leaps off the Reach panel with remarkable visual contrast. According to Charles Evers" notes, he obtained the autograph at Carey"s Miami Beach home in 1966—five years after Carey"s Hall of Fame induction, and ten years before his death. Full LOA from JSA.
