An All-American Classic! Graded Good 2 by PSA. A transcendent sports card by which all others are judged is available with this elite 1952 Topps Baseball #311 Mickey Mantle rookie high number. Of the countless trading cards that Topps has produced over the decades, this "giant size" high number is far and away the most important example of the post-war hobby. By the time Topps had released the high series in October 1952, the "Switch-hitting Mickey" was already recognized as “the face” of “the golden age of baseball.” As such, frenzied fans scooped up Mantle cards and naturally handled and displayed their treasures. Fortunately, for the bidding public, the offered example has escaped acute wear. The “Commerce Comet’s” instantly recognizable batting pose showcases perfect registration with deep colors and an ample coating of original surface gloss. Despite moderately errant centering, the overall presentation is not seriously affected. Moreover, the perimeter displays only moderate corner wear and relatively clean edges. An incidental print dot to the lower right of Mantle’s jawline and a half-inch wrinkle on the lower middle edge of the back which does not break the front is barely evident. Otherwise, the "laces face left" reverse is problem-free with strong text.
