Walter Johnson first drank from the fountain of youth in 1924, when at age 36 he won pitching"s Triple Crown (23 wins, 2.72 ERA and 158 strikeouts), as well as picked up the A.L. MVP and heroically brought home Washington"s only world championship. The Big Train followed up that performance with another season for the ages, posting his twelfth 20-win campaign, batting over .400 at the plate (!), and notching 2 wins in the 1925 World Series. Given that his desirable signature here appears on a 1925-26 National League ball, it stands to reason that the sphere may hail from that very Fall Classic against the senior circuit, since there was no other formal interleague play at that time. This is easily the finest Johnson signed single that we"ve ever had the pleasure to offer, if not one of the best in circulation—period.
