Only 5 pitchers in history have fanned 20 batters out of the 27 total outs in a 9-inning game—Roger Clemens (twice), Kerry Wood, Randy Johnson and, most recently, Max Scherzer. Scherzer even had a shot at 21 K"s but the final opposing hitter grounded out instead. The game was a 3-2 Nationals win over one of Scherzer"s former teams, the Detroit Tigers.
