Originally aired by ABC on Sunday nights during the 1962-1963 primetime season, "The Jetsons" was set exactly one hundred years in the future, in the year 2062. With the way technology is advancing, it looks like a sure bet that flying cars, robot maids and household appliances that do most of the work, will all be reality by the time we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of this classic animated TV show. Set to a catchy space-age tune, the Jetsons opening title and theme song sequence was a sight to behold for 1960s youngsters and their parents, with George dropping off his children Judy and Elroy at their schools, and of course the shopping mall for Jane his wife. Here we have a classic image from the opening sequence, with this original pencil illustration that coincides with the exact moment the show"s title came on the screen. Measuring 12-1/2 x 10-1/2", this crisp page sees the Jetson family in their flying car, as they zoom merrily along the way to their futuristic day. This sharp pencil illustration shows off distinctly against a clean, off-white background. While light wear is noted, this sixty year old piece of animation art remains very pleasing. Noted at bottom are reinforced binder holes, the stamp "V-5" and the handwritten number "53", all of which could readily be matted over should you choose to mount this important piece of television history for display.
