Chiozza has two claims to fame—he was the lead-off batter in major-league baseball"s historic first night game, and he hit a triple past an aging Babe Ruth that signaled (to the Babe, above all) that it was time for Ruth to hang up his spikes for good. This original portrait from the Diamond Stars set measures 4-1/4" x 5-1/4" and is so beautifully rendered, it makes the card itself a pale comparison! Also featured is Chiozza"s jet-black, "8"-strength cut signature. All three pieces bear some peripheral age wear/foxing within their weathered 9" x 10-1/2" frame. Auction LOA from JSA.
